SEMINAR | PERSPEKTIVEN AUF BESTEHENDES

Bachelor, Master | 2CP

The construction sector fulfills essential social tasks. Above all, it must create housing, but also spaces for work, education, culture and leisure, sports, health and consumption. Unfortunately, fulfilling this social mandate is not without side effects, because as we know today, the construction and use of buildings is largely responsible for the impact on the environment and the climate. Around 40 percent of the greenhouse gases responsible for climate change are released in this way in Germany. In addition, there is the consumption of raw materials, the generation of waste and the sealing of land. It is becoming increasingly clear that the construction sector needs a fundamental transformation to meet both its social and environmental obligations.

In the summer semester, the university network "Gemeinsam für die Bauwende" is hosting a hybrid lecture for the second time. Professors from all over Germany will shed light on key aspects of Bauwende in a dialogue-oriented format, dealing with topics from theory and history, economics and the common good, as well as energy, comfort and standards, among others. Construction and circularity, social issues in the context of the city and district as well as building culture and design are also in focus.

Students of the LUH are invited to participate in the ring lecture (Wednesdays from 4pm to 6pm) and process the topics heard there in an individual step by step (in groups of two).
